Vision
As I put my name forward to serve as Captain for District 17 of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government,
I am guided by the Seven Grandfather Teachings, which have carried Our Peoples for generations.
These teachings are more than values — they are a way of life, and they provide the foundation for how I intend to lead and serve our community.
Love (Eagle)
Love means caring for each other and our community. It means ensuring our Elders are respected and our youth are supported. Love guides my commitment to cultural revitalization, to caring for those at the edges, and to empowering our members so no one is left behind.
Respect (Buffalo)
Respect begins with listening to the voices of our people. Through monthly community meetings, I will ensure that every Member has a seat at the table. Respecting our people means putting Métis businesses first, uplifting our community, and honoring our shared culture.
Courage (Bear)
Courage is standing up for what is right, even when it is difficult. I will meet with all levels of government and our oilsands partners to ensure they fulfill their commitments to the McMurray Métis. I will advocate fearlessly for our community, our rights, and our future.
Honesty (Sabe)
Honesty means speaking truthfully and acting with integrity. I pledge transparency you can trust — clear updates, open books, and decisions made in the daylight, not behind closed doors.
Wisdom (Beaver)
Wisdom calls us to listen, learn, and make decisions that benefit not just today, but the next seven generations. I will bring open books and full financial disclosure so that every Member understands how our resources are managed wisely and responsibly.
Humility (Wolf)
Humility reminds us that leadership is service. As Captain, I will never see myself above the community but as a servant to it. Guided by the voices of our Elders, Members, and youth, I will walk alongside you in the work of building our future together.
Truth (Turtle)
Truth is living all of these teachings every day. My promise is simple: to lead with accountability, to keep our community informed, and to get things done in a way that honors who we are as Métis People.
About Bill
Advocate for and Protect Métis Rights
For generations, Métis people have worked hard to have our voices heard, our culture recognized, and our rights respected. Bill Loutitt has been a strong advocate in this fight — ensuring that Métis rights are not just words on paper but living promises that protect our people today and for the future.
As District Captain, I will continue to:
Stand up for Métis self-determination — making sure our communities have the authority to decide our own future.
Defend land, harvesting, and cultural rights — ensuring that our traditions, way of life, and connection to the land are preserved.
Hold governments and industry accountable — by negotiating fair agreements that respect Métis voices and bring meaningful benefits to our Members .
Protect future generations — by making sure Métis children and youth inherit a world where their identity and rights are valued.
Protecting Métis rights is not just about legal recognition — it’s about dignity, respect, and creating opportunities for our people to thrive in their homeland.
Elders at the Table
Recognizing Elders as Knowledge Keepers, Bill commits to ensuring they have a guiding voice in decisions that shape the future. This honors Métis traditions, strengthens cultural continuity, and ensures that decisions are grounded in wisdom and respect. Elders’ insights will guide governance, cultural programming, and community priorities.
Empower Métis Members
Bill’s vision focuses on creating opportunities for education, training, and employment for Members and especially youth. This means developing programs that build skills, strengthen cultural pride, and support personal and professional growth. By empowering individuals, the whole community becomes stronger and more resilient.
Monthly Meetings that Matter
Instead of waiting for once-a-year updates, Bill promises to return to meaningful monthly meetings where Members can ask questions, raise concerns, and stay informed. These meetings will foster open dialogue, build community trust, and ensure that leadership decisions are shaped by member input in real time.
Transparency You Can Trust
Bill promises open and transparent access to all financial records related to McMurray Métis, Infinity Métis, and the Cultural Center. This means members will be able to see how funds are raised, where they are allocated, and how they directly benefit the community. Full disclosure builds trust, prevents misuse of funds, and ensures accountability to all members, Government and Industry Partners.
Métis First, Always
Bill is committed to prioritizing Métis businesses and entrepreneurs for opportunities, contracts, and partnerships without prejudice and favoritism. By supporting local Métis-led businesses first, the economic benefits circulate within the community, strengthening collective prosperity and self-determination.
Inclusivity
Bill Loutitt knows that a strong Métis Nation is one where everyone belongs. Too often, people on the margins — whether because of poverty, disability, gender, youth, or being disconnected from culture — are left without a voice. Bill is committed to changing that.
As District Captain, Bill will work to:
Create safe spaces for every voice — ensuring women, youth, Elders, 2SLGBTQ+, and those facing hardship have a place at the table.
Build supports for those struggling — from housing and education to mental health and wellness, so no member is left behind.
Champion reconciliation within our own community — lifting up those who have been historically overlooked or excluded.
Celebrate diversity as strength — recognizing that inclusivity makes the whole community more resilient, innovative, and united.
Protect Métis Rights — Trappers, Harvesters, Recreation and Land Users
Bill believes that the true measure of leadership is not how the most privileged are treated, but how we uplift the most vulnerable. His vision is a Métis Nation where every member feels seen, heard, and valued.
